SunCoast Angels facilitates connections between Entrepreneurs and Investors.

 

We do this by conducting regular monthly pitch meetings and other events.

 

Having an active investment group on the Sunshine Coast provides a first stop for local entrepreneurs looking for investment.

Leadership

Gavin Keeley

President

Gavin is a Chairman and Non-Executive with decades of board level experience. He has held multiple Director appointments and led technology teams at Aviva and Suncorp and successfully built technology and AI companies that partnered with the likes of Amazon and Microsoft providing technology and AI services to government and major financial institutions.

He is passionate about preventing IT failures that cost businesses reputation and careers.In his career both as Director and CEO brings deep IT governance and Cyber Security expertise to companies that traditionally considered themselves immune to technological disruption - whether natural disaster or malicious intent.

Gavin is a non-executive director and co-founder of Silicon Coast - a group of over 1800 IT people on the  Sunshine Coast, and in that space has helped bring private equity to Sunshine Coast businesses.  He is passionate about growing the knowledge industry on the Coast. Why do a startup in Melbourne central CBD when you can live and work in one of the best communities and environments globally, connected via the undersea cable to the global cyberspace.

Mike Greeff

Committee Member and Founder

Michael Greeff is a qualified Chartered Accountant, a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an affiliate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Mike Founded SunCoast Angels in early 2017 and the Sunshine Coast Mentoring & Investment group in 2014.  He’s an active Angel Investor in Brisbane Angels since February 2014.

Mike opened The Hive Business Space in March 2017 and successfully exited in April 2018.

Prior to emigrating to Australia in 2009, Mike was a founding Shareholder and Director of The Reclamation Group Pty Ltd, South Africa’s largest international recycling company.

Mike has served on a number of Boards during his career and maintains a number of philanthropic pursuits.

Sheree is an independent Consultant for various public and private organisations specialising in business strategic planning, implementation of growth initiatives, organisational development and financial forecasting. Sheree has over 17 years experience as a medical research fellow in drug delivery kinetics, formulation design and commercialisation strategies. Sheree is currently engaged as the Manager Research (Research Governance and Development Unit) for the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.

Sheree also has over 10 years experience as a Private Equity Investment Director specialising in mergers and acquisitions, new opportunity assessment, due diligence, financial restructuring and preparing businesses for sale and investment attraction.

Sheree has a passion for supporting businesses grow and succeed on the Sunshine Coast.

Hugh has been in the business of commercialising innovative technologies for the last 25 years. He has a wealth of experience in business startups and knows first hand how difficult to move from a great idea to a great business.   Hugh has spent the years in business startups or turnarounds, working with fantastic people, investors, mentors, and other professionals in new businesses. He has a passion for supporting new businesses, and getting involved as a mentor or actively involved. His passion for the Sunshine Coast was to to see new generation businesses supported - be they in renewable energy, or STEM business on the Coast, supported by government and individuals. Not just centres of excellence such as the Innovation Centre, Peregian Digital Hub, but the other ecosystems that sustain from creation to business success.

Hugh moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1997 after selling a global business. Three months of sandology convinced him that boredom was not a lifestyle, neither was travelling.  Hugh grew up in rural New Zealand, completed a degree in Agricultural Science, a PhD in Weed Science from Oregon State University but moved to commercial innovation in early 1990's. Mark is an Advisor at Board Associates, a Director at Legion Telecom and an Associate at Rowland. He is an experienced executive with demonstrated history of achievement in business development. Skilled in strategy, planning, transformation, innovation - a graduate member AICD, GradCert in Management (UQ), Bachelor of Commerce (GU).

Mark’s passion in life is to assist entrepreneurs to achieve their full potential and he has worked with over 180 companies in 5 countries from startups, high growth businesses to large multinationals.

As the former CEO of the Innovation Centre Sunshine Coast (2012-2020) Mark introduced new accelerator programs and had the privilege of working with a team of advisors / mentors to provide catalytic support to over 150 entrepreneurial members.

Mark first started assisting startups at Griffith University in 1989 and then formally via The Office of Economic Development City of Brisbane Ltd in 1992. Mark’s team played a key role in business facilitation and establishing Australia TradeCoast (1992-98), BNE Airport Corporation Ltd (1996-97), ourBrisbane portal (1997-98), Smart State Strategy (2000-2003) and Cities of Asia Pacific Conference (1992–1999).

Mark has also Chaired the Sunshine Coast Health Panel (2018-19), been President of the Brisbane Junior Chamber of Commerce (1995-96) and has assisted a range of community and social enterprises.

Chris has grown international technology businesses from start-up to a multimillion-dollar turnover and ultimate sale. He is experienced in building professional services and software product/solutions businesses in Australia and internationally.  He has extensive experience in delivering on strategic intent through effective change management and project portfolio design and execution. He is passionate about building teams focused on a common vision for success, and then leading teams to deliver on and embed change to achieve successful outcomes.
As previous Co-Founder and Director of Oniqua, and which was sold to IBM Watson in 2018, Chris was known for :

  • Facilitating breakthrough, step-change business performance
  • Enabling high-growth or technology businesses
  • Creating and defending digital disruption
  • Transitioning to cloud-based business and technology models.

He invests in, and consults to, high growth, technology-based solutions companies to help them achieve the next step change increase in growth and joins the Committee with a passion for supporting world class businesses from the Sunshine Coast
